Hi , my name is Marco Kotz and I'm a Computer Science student interested in web technologies and mobile technologies. I love to write code in Java and Ruby. I'm a heavy user of Ruby on Rails and I recently started to explore node.js. In my spare time I'm publishing Apps for Android and I like to make cool things with myRaspberry Pi.

Compiling Quake 3 via SSH works the same way you would do it locally. But playing it remotely?

Most Ubuntu beginners start with experiences from other operating systems, like Windows, and are used to the way the desktop was arranged in their old operating system. One of the most frustrating first time experiences because of unmet expactations is that icons on the desktop do not snap to a underlying grid. This is because the desktop of Ubuntu does not have a underlying grid. Thus you are allowed to place the icons in every possible way, even overlapping, and when you have finished arranging your icons you simply "freeze" the current positions.

To get rounded corners on layouts or layout elements in Android you can use the shape drawable to stay flexibel without the need to recreate Nine-Patch-Drawables everytime your layout changes a bit. See the Documentation-Section for all attributes.

I recently started to watch flash streams of online-lectures that end with short quizzes and i’m watching those streams from a more comfortable position (from the couch) that would require me to stand up and go to my desktop pc for the keyboard and mouse to answer the quizzes following every video. So i thought about how i could prevent having to stand up every 3 minutes to click some answers without losing my seating comfort ;)
